Giant Pocket Door Frame
Pocket doors are the hidden gems in our lives. They close off rooms when you need it, and they slide into hidden pockets in the wall when you don’t. Recently Delta Millwork was asked to make some pocket doors for a 10,000sf house where everything was going to be huge. 10-foot tall doors everywhere. Extra thick walls. Yes, this is the job for Delta.
The picture shows the pocket door frame that we made to accommodate a HUGE 6-foot-wide and 10-foot tall door that will slide into the wall when finished. (We are also making the doors for this project and will post pictures when as the project moves along).
To accommodate such a huge door required a track and roller system that could hold a very large and heavy door weighing approximately 300lbs. We custom fabricated the hardware using heavy-duty steel track and a custom-made roller system and using commercial-grade rollers and attachment points. The wooden frame required some major upgrades as well since a standard pocket frame is made from simple ¾” material. We made these frames from 1-1/4” thick material to provide added strength and wall support.
When these doors (there are 6 of them throughout the house) are finished they will roll as smoothly as marbles on a floor.
